Brief Biography
Consciousness-raising education and community organizing for a liberatory masculinity committed to social justice and gender equality has been my life work for more than 30 years. I have a doctoral degree in Social Justice Education from the University of Massachusetts. In 1982 I co-founded the Men’s Resource Center of Western Massachusetts where I was executive director until 2003. I then co-founded Men’s Resources International (MRI) to provide training, consulting and networking for emerging programs around the world.
Through MRI, trainings have been conducted for the YWCA in Zambia and the United States, community leaders in Nigeria, CARE International in Rwanda and Niger, the Rwanda Men’s Resource Centre and coffee farmers in Rwanda, the International Rescue Committee in Liberia and Cote d’Ivoire, the Liberian Ministry of Gender and Development, the Women’s Peacemakers Program of the International Fellowship of Reconciliation, the International Planned Parenthood Federation and Save the Children in Nepal, and the School for International Training in the United States. MRI has been instrumental in organizing and leading the Men of Color Health Awareness initiative through the YMCA in Springfield, Massachusetts in the United States. I developed a toolkit for organizing “Masculinity Reflection Groups” for men and women with CARE International in Mali and Niger, and I am now consulting with organizations in Rwanda, DRC and Burundi to design a "women and men as partners in peacebuiling" program.
I am now a Senior Training/Consultant at MERGE for Equality. I am also a founding member of the Global MenEngage Alliance.
